This sculpture is part of my Making Maternal Labor Visible series, which explores the dual temporalities of the artist-mother by materialising maternal labor within contemporary art. Central to the series are paper sculptures that mimic domestic objects. Each work holds artistic and maternal labor simultaneously; two forms often perceived as opposing practices or acts of creation. Artistic labor is embedded in the making of the sculpture, while maternal labor is rendered visible through colonial knots positioned on the surface as temporal markers, each corresponding to one hour of maternal care associated with the piece.
